Giant
Leatherback Turtles
| Playa Grande, which is
the extension of Tamarindo Beach is the largest remaining nesting
area of the giant leatherback turtle. Nesting season runs from
November through April. Our staff will be happy to arrange a "Turtle
Tour" with a skilled guide. The beach has been dedicated as a
national wildlife preserve to allow this million-year-old ritual
of nature to continue without impedance from human encroachment. |
 |
Here you can observe one of the great spectacles of nature.
It is nothing short of inspirational to watch the slow methodical dance
of these gentle giants as they drag themselves with great exertion up
the beach. They then proceed to literally carve out a four-foot deep hole
in the sand with their fins into which they will deposit their eggs. If
you plan a visit during turtle nesting season, this is a very special
experience and should not be missed!
